Hermitlux Countertop Dishwasher Review — Will It Earn Its Space?

· NookPrep Editorial Team

Compact kitchen sink and counter used to plan countertop dishwasher placement

A dishwasher can clear your sink and still make your kitchen harder to use. The Hermitlux HMX-DW03 deserves a look if you want a compact machine without a permanent water connection—but only if filling, loading, and draining it fit your daily routine. This review separates the published specifications from the practical questions worth answering before you buy.

Research-based review: NookPrep has not hands-on tested this model. Our assessment uses Hermitlux’s US product information and published instructions. Cleaning performance, drying results, noise, and long-term reliability remain untested by us.

Our verdict

Shortlist the HMX-DW03 if your main problem is a recurring pile of everyday tableware and you have a convenient place to leave the machine. Be more cautious if you need it to handle most of your cookware or plan to move it out of the way after every meal.

Our recommendation is about suitability, not a claim that this dishwasher cleans better than its rivals. The most useful buying question is: How much of my actual washing-up would this take over, and what new chores would it add?

The specifications that matter

Hermitlux’s US listing identifies the HMX-DW03 with a 5-liter tank, optional faucet supply, a four-place-setting capacity claim, and five wash programs. It lists external dimensions of 16.85 × 16.73 × 18.03 inches, a net weight of 26.5 pounds, and a 120 V/60 Hz supply. Its stated 12-inch plate fit requires angled loading. These are manufacturer figures, not our measurements. Hermitlux US product listing.

Those figures give you a starting point. They do not tell you whether your deep bowls, favorite mugs, or awkward dinner plates will make a useful mixed load.

Also check the exact model on the seller’s listing and supplied documentation. This review concerns the US HMX-DW03; a similar name or appearance does not establish that another regional version has identical specifications.

A water tank helps only when filling it is convenient

For a buyer who cannot make a permanent plumbing change, the tank is the feature that makes this model interesting. But before deciding that it solves your setup problem, walk through one ordinary evening in your kitchen.

Where will you fill the pitcher? Where will you set it down? Can you reach the machine comfortably? Will another person still be able to use the sink while the dishwasher is in place?

These are easy questions to skip while comparing product pages. They matter every time you use the appliance.

For example, imagine two possible locations: a clear corner several steps from the sink and a tighter space beside it. The first looks tidier in a photograph. The second might create a simpler routine. Neither is automatically suitable; verify the permitted installation and hose arrangement for the unit before choosing.

Our buying advice: choose the location by the entire wash routine, not by where the closed appliance looks best.

Hermitlux’s instructions call for the drain hose to be secured and warn against moving the machine during operation. Tank filling does not remove the need to arrange drainage correctly. Consult the manufacturer’s HMX-DW03 instructions through its installation page for the actual setup, rather than treating this review as an installation manual.

Judge capacity by the dishes you want to stop washing

We would not translate a place-setting claim into a promise that this machine will handle everything a household produces in a day.

Instead, identify the load that annoys you most. Is it breakfast bowls and mugs? Dinner plates and cutlery? Food-storage containers? Or the frying pan, chopping board, and mixing bowl left after cooking?

Make two columns: items you want the machine to handle and items you expect to continue washing by hand. If most of your effort sits in the second column, a compact dishwasher may be the wrong purchase even if its advertised capacity sounds adequate.

Do a useful loading check

  1. Gather one representative meal’s dishes before washing them.
  2. Measure the largest and most awkward items, including their depth and handles.
  3. Ask for an exact-model loading demonstration showing a similar mixture.
  4. Look for space around items, rather than counting how many can be squeezed in.
  5. Decide whether splitting that meal into multiple loads would still feel convenient.

This is a pre-purchase exercise, not a claim that we fitted those items into the HMX-DW03. The distinction matters: an empty-rack photograph can help establish shape, but it cannot prove a useful real-world load.

Counter space is an ongoing cost

Try marking the proposed location on your counter and leaving that area unavailable for a day. Prepare breakfast, make coffee, and cook dinner around it.

The experiment will not reproduce door movement, hose clearance, or loading. It will reveal whether you can comfortably give up that workspace in the first place. Then check the additional operating clearances with the exact model’s instructions or seller.

Ask where dirty dishes will wait and where clean dishes will go when unloaded. A machine can fit physically while leaving no convenient staging area beside it.

What we like—and what keeps the recommendation conditional

The strongest case for this Hermitlux is flexibility: it is a candidate for someone who wants a dishwasher without designing their kitchen around a permanent water hookup. Its value will depend on whether it removes a repetitive task you dislike.

The reservation is evidence. We have not run standardized dirty-dish tests, recorded a cycle beside a microphone, checked the dryness of a mixed load, or used this machine long enough to assess durability.

Decision areaWhat would strengthen a purchase decision
CleaningIndependent tests with disclosed soil, loading, and cycle conditions
DryingResults for the dish materials you actually use
NoiseA comparable measurement or a useful room-context demonstration
SupportWritten terms for your seller, location, and exact model
Ownership effortClear access to operating instructions, routine maintenance, and replacement parts

We would not replace those gaps with an arbitrary star rating. A specific unanswered question is more useful than a confident-looking score with no test behind it.

Check the cost of a poor fit, not just the checkout price

Before ordering, read the seller’s return terms for an appliance that has been unpacked or used. Ask who pays return shipping and whether the warranty applies to the exact unit and destination. Keep the written answers with your order information.

Then decide what success means for you. “I no longer hand-wash our ordinary dinner tableware” is a useful goal. “I never wash anything again” is a much harder expectation for any small appliance to meet.

If you are comparing listings, check the model, included accessories, support, and return conditions together. A lower price can be less attractive if the consequences of a poor fit are unclear. We have intentionally left out a fixed price and a “best deal” claim because those require a current, seller-specific comparison.

When we would consider something else

If you have floor space but little spare counter, first compare the formats in our countertop versus portable dishwasher guide.

If you are still choosing between compact models, our countertop dishwasher hub provides the wider research path. The HAVA R01 versus R09 comparison is another model-specific starting point. Neither link means we have tested Hermitlux against HAVA or established a cleaning winner.

Do not choose solely by the longest feature list. Eliminate models that cannot accommodate your installation or essential dishes first. Compare the remaining options on evidence, support, and total purchase terms.

Questions worth answering before you order

Can it replace a full-size dishwasher?

That depends on the work you expect it to take over. We would assess it as help for selected everyday loads, not assume full-size capacity from the product category. Check your cookware separately.

Is it suitable if I need to put it away after each use?

We would be cautious. Repeated setup and storage can undermine the convenience you are buying. Plan the movement, storage location, and manufacturer-approved handling before assuming that routine will work for you.

Does NookPrep recommend it over NOVETE or HAVA?

We do not have comparable hands-on results to support that ranking. Start with your loading and setup requirements, then compare the exact models and seller terms.

Should you buy the Hermitlux HMX-DW03?

It belongs on your shortlist if you can give it a practical home and identify a meaningful daily load it could take off your hands. Our recommendation remains conditional on fit, installation, and purchase protections.

If buying it would mean rebuilding your counter after every meal—or still hand-washing nearly everything that bothers you—keep looking. The right dishwasher should simplify the routine you already have.
